V.F.S. Policies
MoisturizERS
This is a serious DON’T. Absolutely no lotion, oils, tanning, manicures or pedicures within 24 hours of taking a class at Vertical Fitness Studio. Moisturizers leave a slippery film on poles and will put you and everyone else in the studio at risk for falling. Being slippery also makes learning moves very difficult and can cause unnecessary frustration. If you have problems with dry skin, call us for tips and suggestions of products we use to stay moisturized and not slippery!
RISKS
As with any sport, there is a risk of getting hurt with pole fitness. It is very important that you show up to class ON TIME so you can be taken through a warm up and stretches to help reduce the risk of strains and sprains. Bruising is also a common and unavoidable side-effect of pole. Once you get used to the moves and are more relaxed, the bruising will lessen.
JEWELRY
You MUST take off all jewelry and watches before class. Jewelry can cause severe injury to you with even basic use of our apparatuses. Jewelry can also damage our poles, and be damaged by it. Gold/platinum/silver are all much softer than stainless steel. Fabric/cord jewelry and silicone rings are ok.
AGE
Your must be 18 or older to participate in all classes. We are able to accommodate minors of at least 13 years of age if a parent or guardian gives approval and signs your waiver in person, with you, on your first day of class. They are not required to stay in-studio for class, but they must be here for your first check in.
Being on Time
Please arrive 5-10 minutes early to your first class in order to sign your waiver & any other paperwork. The doors remain LOCKED during class times, and will be locked 5 minutes after the class start time. If you have a personal emergency or other situation preventing you from being on time, you may call or text 916-508-3234 to discuss options. Some teachers will allow late entry, but others do not. Make sure to ask your favorite teacher what their policy is!
First time students may not be permitted for late entry due to the amount of time processing a new student takes.
pregnancy
Classes are not suitable for pregnant women who have never poled before,
as with any exercise routine.
Frequently asked questions
What are the benefits of taking Pole Fitness Classes?
The physical benefits of pole fitness classes include increased cardio capacity, muscular strength, and endurance. Psychologically, pole fitness increases confidence and empowerment. It can also make you feel sexy, if you choose.
VFS is a place to just let loose, be yourself, build relationships, all while getting fit and having fun!
I have never done this type of exercise before, will I be ok?
Yes! VFS classes are designed for all sizes, shapes, and fitness levels.
Is Pole Dancing Difficult?
It is, but every move or position can be modified to your fitness level. As you practice, you progress to the next level of difficulty. Like any sport, pole dancing requires agility, balance, a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. Your strength and confidence will come with time and practice!
How many people can attend a class?
There are 9 poles at the VFS studio. Classes are limited to 17 students. There are never more than two per pole at any given time.
For private parties there is a maximum occupancy of 24.
I really want to try Pole, but I am shy/nervous/embarrassed...
We see you, you are not alone! Everyone feels that way at first. We’ve devoted ourselves to building a positive and motivating environment for you. As a student at VFS, you will have the full support and encouragement of our crew.
I have sweaty hands. What can I do?
Lots of people have sweaty hands, or they have sweaty hands when they first start doing pole fitness as a result of nerves and gripping too hard. Thankfully, there are plenty of grip aids available to help. We sell several in store and we are always trying new ones to make sure we have the best and most accommodating selection, so if you like one we don't have, let us know!
Are there weight restrictions?
NO. Everyone is welcome to take our classes! We have yet to meet anyone we can't accommodate. If you have a specific concern, do not hesitate to call and ask.
Are we allowed to view or preview classes?
Out of respect for our students privacy and comfort, we do not allow spectators.
What should I wear?
Most pole dance moves require the friction of gripping the pole with your skin. So, you will need bare arms and legs and sometimes sides for more advanced levels. You can warm up in either bare feet, or socks. We do not allow outside shoes on the dance floor.
Shorts combined with a sports bra, tank top or T-shirt are best.
Footwear:
We ask that you to train barefoot, or in socks. You can train in heels that haven't been worn outside. We also have loaners for you to try in studio.
Moisturizers:
This is a serious DON’T. It doesn’t matter how dry your skin is or how nasty the weather is, do not moisturize on the days you are headed to class. Moisturizers leave a slippery film on poles and put you – and everyone else in the class – at risk for falling. It also increases the frustrations of new students because being slippery makes learning moves nearly impossible. If you have problems with dry skin, call us for tips and suggestions of products we use to stay moisturized and not slippery!
Jewelry:
You MUST take off any rings, bracelets and anklets. We do not allow jewelry on the hands. Not only can your jewelry be damaged from being banged against the pole, but we also don't want our poles damaged by your jewelry. We both win! Also, more important: Jewelry can cause degloving injuries to the fingers, deep cuts to the wrists, and other wounds to the hands and lower arms. Loose-fitting bracelets and necklaces should also be taken off before class. Cloth/leather/other soft jewelry & Qalo/Enso & other silicone rings are ok.
Hair clips:
If you have long hair, you may find it easier to concentrate if you clip it back or tie it in a pony tail. But if it doesn’t get in your way, long hair can be a very sexy prop while pole dancing!!
What should I bring?
Please bring your shorts and any grip aids you prefer, as well as a water bottle or sports drink if you need hydration. There are no water fountains at the studio.
What methods of payment do you accept?
We accept MasterCard/Visa/AMEX, and cash. We do not accept checks. In certain instances for custom merchandise and shoe orders we can accept PayPal, Venmo & other digital currency. If you have a Membership enrolled in our Autopay system, we must have 30 days notice for any cancellation. Any Autopay that does fails to process will be subjected to a fee of $30.
